In a step towards the forefront in the use of forensic DNA for criminal prosecution, the Senate of the Province of Santa Fe-Argentina, approved a bill to create a new Provincial Registry of Digitized Genetic Fingerprints. This legislative advance consists of 26 articles divided into several chapters and seeks to modernize the institutions in charge of criminal justice. The new Law would replace Law No. 13,222, passed in November 2011 but never implemented.
An initiative supported by consensus
The project, promoted by Deputy José Corral, was approved during a session in which 33 bills were debated and approved, of which 17 became regulations. As part of the agreement of Labor Parlamentaria, the grounds of the bill were included in the shorthand version of the debate.
This breakthrough underscores the Province of Santa Fe’s commitment to innovation and effectiveness in the criminal justice system, showing how science can be a key pillar in the pursuit of justice and security.
