Panama celebrated the approval and implementation of its new DNA Database Manual

On October 11 of this year, the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences - IMELCF of Panama celebrated the approval and implementation of its new DNA Database Manual.

This Manual, approved on September 26, will act as the “regulation” of the database and is the formal policy by which IMELCF will govern the operations of its DNA database. This manual is key to protecting the privacy of sample donors while creating an effective criminal justice and human identification tool for the authorities of Panama. The event was attended by more than 40 people, including the IMELCF DNA team, its Board of Directors, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Judiciary and the Ministry of Public Security. It is important to highlight that the Minister of Public Security (Juan Pino) and the Attorney General of Panama (Javiar Caraballo) attended and made statements on the importance of the approval of this Manual.
